My mother is magic. True story. My entire Italian family will vouch that my mother was conceived while my grandmother was still a virgin. Which makes my mother…Jesus. (And we know for a fact my grandmother was a virgin because she and my grandfather weren’t married yet.) I never questioned this story growing up. In fact, I didn’t question it until I was 22 years-old, dumped by my first and "better-be-last" boyfriend just days after he proposed to me, and my mother chose to lecture me on proper pre-marital behavior: "Couples today have no reason to stay together. You do everything you want before marriage. Why would he have married you?" In that moment I decided to start writing this play.
